Family photography is such a special thing to be able to capture, as someone with a young family my self I understand just how special every photograph is, whether its those quick snapshots taken on your phone, or heirloom images taken by a professional photographer.
I love being able to record those precious memories of your child or whole family for you, in high quality images, that can be printed of for large canvas wall hangings and will always be cherished and passed down through the generations as a historical document of your family.
I like to photograph real faces when they are relaxed and in a natural environment, this might be on a walk along the beach, or at home with a cup of tea. People are their most beautiful when they are just being themselves. I do offer studio style photos from my home studio in Selsey should you want a more neutral back drop.
To keep things simple I offer two packages:
A one to one hour long shoot
Designed for parents who want some images of just their child on there own
With (long enough for a good walk to find nice light and to work through some games or adventures with the kids and then some formal poses if requested)
I aim to get a minimum of 10 photographs, I usually get more and you will receive all images that are in focus from the shoot, but the emphasis is on capturing those golden moments; quality over quantity. The images will be fully edited where appropriate and supplied in full resolution on a memory stick, ready to print or post online. Alternatively, I can simply email them over to you.
The Family Pack designed for 2 or more adults/children/pets
Up to 5 people in total. I allow up to 3 hours for this type of shoot and I aim to get a minimum of 15 shots (possibly more depending on how happy and compliant the kids/adults are). This package includes a memory stick containing all the images or again, it can simply be emailed straight to you
Please contact for pricing for larger groups.
High quality Prints are available at an additional £10 per print up to a4 size.
"Matt was brilliant. He was very patient with my 1yr old gaining her trust so she was relaxed around him to take beautiful photos. I would highly recommend Matt.!"
What to wear
Its Vital that you and your family are comfortable in the cloths you wear, We might want to show our kids in their Sunday best but if they hate wearing it, then trust me they will show it in the photos.
Instead of thinking about the best outfit you all have, just focusing on Co-ordinating outfits as it brings cohesion to the images especially in a family shoot. Have a think about colours that suit your complexion and you feel good wearing. Confidence is key to a relaxed looking photo and this begins with you being happy in the cloths you are wearing.
Try to avoid clothing with patterns, logos, writing, pictures or anything which will be distracting, these things can and will date the photograph in a negative way! Warm or cool colours, pastels and earthy colours look good in family group pictures. Textures and layers work well – they add real depth to portraits.
Location Shoot vs Studio shoots
Family location photo shoots are wonderful, around West Sussex and the surrounding counties of Hampshire, Kent and Surrey, we have a magnificent opportunity to shoot in some truly beautiful natural environment, ranging from the woodlands around Kingly Vale, to beaches or West Witterings, the historic Cities of Chichester Portsmouth and Brighton also offer some amazing locations for photo shoots in a more urban environment, or some of the smaller pretty, villages like Arundel or Bosham, Full of Charm and character to capture some heir loom one of a kind Photos for you and your family to cherish and pass on through the generations.
Studio photography offers an entirely different list of benefits to Family photography.
In the studio environment we can control the light more easily, some people also prefer the very neutral back round in a studio setting. The weather can also play a part in your decision, we will still shoot on location in almost any weather, however studio work can go ahead even in the dark, in fact the less light the better, on very bright days we actually block some of the light out from the studio.
