Family Photography In West Sussex
Family photography is such a joyful thing to document, whether its new parents experiencing caring for a child for the first time, or family welcoming another child into the world.
We offer studio photoshoots or on location all around west Sussex. You may already have a favourite place you go to as a family, or somewhere that has sentimental value. However, if you are not sure where would be suitable why not get in touch and discuss options, we have lived in West Sussex for over 20 years and know so many beautiful locations that are perfect for family photography.

Location Shoot vs Studio Shoots
What to Wear
It's vital that you and your family are comfortable in the clothes you wear. You are more than welcome to dress up but, especially with children, if the outfits aren't comfortable then it will show it in the photos!
Co-ordinating outfits can bring cohesion to the images especially in a family shoot, but this doesn't necessarily mean matching outfits! Have a think about colours that suit your complexion and you feel good wearing. Confidence is key to a relaxed looking photo and this begins with you being happy in the clothes you are wearing.
Try to avoid clothing with patterns, logos, writing, pictures or anything which will be distracting. These things can date the photograph in a negative way! Warm or cool colours, pastels and earthy colours look good in family group pictures.
Textures and layers work well – they add real depth to portraits and can be useful sometimes with the British weather.
Location shoots can be a wonderful way to capture special images in special places that have meaning for your family. We are also happy to shoot these in your own home or garden so that you don't have to travel.
Around West Sussex and the surrounding counties of Hampshire, Kent and Surrey, we have magnificent opportunities to shoot in some truly beautiful natural environments. Ranging from the woodlands around Kingly Vale, to the beaches of West Wittering, there are many options.
The historic cities of Chichester, Portsmouth and Brighton also offer some amazing locations for photo shoots in a more urban environment, as well as giving the choice to include green spaces in parks and public gardens. Some of the smaller villages like Arundel or Bosham are also full of charm and character and can be great to capture those moments for the family to cherish and pass on through the generations.
Studio photography has different advantages compared to location shots for family photography.
In the studio environment we can control the light and temperature more easily and this is particularly helpful in the colder, darker months. It can also be useful for things like Birthday Cake Smashes etc.
Some people also prefer the very neutral background in a studio setting for a more traditional photo.
The weather can also play a part in your decision, we will still shoot on location in almost any weather (jumping in puddles can create some lovely photos), but for very young children this might not be practical!
