Selsey Wedding Photography: James & Anna’s Warm, Joy‑Filled Celebration

Some couples bring so much warmth and energy into a wedding day that you can feel it from the very first moment.
James & Anna are exactly that kind of couple.

I first met them at a surprise engagement celebration in Chichester — James had proposed secretly at the Harbour Hotel, and then organised a hidden party with friends and family waiting. Capturing that moment for them was magic. So returning months later to photograph their wedding felt like watching the next chapter of a story I already cared deeply about.

Their day in Selsey was relaxed, bohemian, heartfelt and full of life. A perfect blend of family, music, home comforts, golden light, and a couple completely wrapped up in each other.

A Warm, Bohemian Morning in Selsey

The morning began at their family home — a place overflowing with personality, memories and the beautiful chaos of a space lived‑in and loved.

It was exactly the right setting for their day:

  • relaxed

  • intimate

  • full of character

  • with gardens that felt like a little tropical hideaway

Soft light fell through the windows, fizz was poured, croissants were handed around, and the morning unfolded in a gentle, meaningful way.
A family home like this always carries a special kind of emotional weight — it holds history, childhood, love, and the roots of who someone is.

The gardens outside were magical: strings of lights, greenery everywhere, and a dining area already set for later — waiting patiently for the warm summer evening to arrive. Even in the morning, you could tell this space was going to shine at night.

Travelling to the Church With Anna (and the Perfect B‑Roll Moment)

One of my favourite parts of the morning was riding in the car with Anna on the way to the church.
These in‑between moments often give the most honest, beautiful footage — stillness mixed with anticipation, movement mixed with emotion.

Perfect for B‑roll for their wedding film and amazing documentary‑style stills.

A Heartfelt Ceremony at St Peter’s Church

Their ceremony took place at St Peter’s Church — a traditional Christian celebration filled with family, friends and that calm, familiar village warmth that makes small community weddings special.

It felt intimate, emotional and deeply meaningful.

And then — the windy confetti aisle. One of those brilliant “embrace the chaos” moments full of flying petals, laughter and joy.
Some confetti exits are gentle…
this one was beautifully wild.

Back in the Convertible: Newly‑Married Magic

After the ceremony, I jumped back in the car with them — this time with both newlyweds in the back of a convertible, roof down, wind sweeping through, and the most incredible light pouring into the car.

Golden highlights dancing across their shoulders.
Hair blowing in the wind.
That unmistakable glow of two people who can’t stop smiling.

These tiny pockets of time — the “just married” moments — are everything.

A Garden Reception Full of Music, Colour & Heart

Back at the house, guests were greeted by a local pianist and violinist performing a beautiful duet as everyone arrived — setting a warm, summery, irresistibly welcoming tone.

Meanwhile, James had taken on the role of wedding‑day chef.

Not metaphorically.
Literally.

He was cooking a full rack of ribs and an entire spread of barbecue dishes.
Seeing the groom grilling food for his own guests was both hilarious and genuinely heart‑warming. He loved it — and the food was exceptional.

The whole reception felt relaxed, natural and full of good vibes — the kind of atmosphere that doesn’t need a strict schedule because everyone is simply happy to be there, in that moment.

A Slow Summer Evening & Golden Hour Walk

As the day softened into evening, the lights in the garden began to glow beautifully — exactly as Anna had envisioned earlier in the day.
Warm.
Romantic.
Atmospheric.

After a lovely cake cutting and first dance, we slipped out through the back gate into the fields behind the house — open countryside, gentle wind, long grasses, and warm golden light settling across the horizon.

James & Anna were completely at ease.
No pressure.
No posing.
Just two people walking together in the evening summer air.

This is exactly why natural, unposed photography works so well:
the truth of the moment speaks for itself.

A Day of Laughter, Love & Beautiful Souls

James & Anna’s wedding was everything a relaxed, bohemian, family‑centred celebration should be:

  • meaningful getting‑ready time

  • emotional ceremony

  • joyful confetti

  • convertible rides in beautiful light

  • live music in the garden

  • incredible homemade food

  • warm summer air

  • golden hour portraits

  • and a couple overflowing with love for each other and everyone around them

A truly beautiful day with two wonderful humans.
