Grace & Nick’s White Horse Summer Wedding
The High‑Energy, Festival‑Style Celebration in the Sussex Valleys
A Warm, Sun‑Drenched Sussex Wedding Day
Some wedding days move with a slow, gentle rhythm. Others burst into life from the moment you arrive.
Grace & Nick’s wedding at The White Horse was the latter — a sun‑soaked, high‑energy celebration that carried the feeling of a mini‑festival tucked into the quiet Sussex countryside.
Classic Sussex sunshine poured over the valley from early morning, giving everything that soft, golden shimmer that The White Horse is known for. And because the entire day unfolded in one place — from getting ready to dancing under the stars — the wedding flowed with a beautiful ease. Nothing rushed. Nothing staged. Just laughter, movement, and a whole lot of joy.
Getting Ready in the Valley Light
There are prep rooms that simply do their job, and then there are rooms that give something to the story. The White Horse sits in an east‑facing valley, meaning it receives a wash of gentle, warming light from the moment the sun rises. Grace’s getting‑ready room was full of it.
Morning Light That Fills the Space
Large windows lined one side of the room, pouring sunlight across the floorboards and catching the dresses hanging in the middle of the space. It created the perfect balance of brightness and softness — the kind of light that flatters everything it touches.
Because the valley opens to the east, that morning light is especially beautiful. A clean, fresh, almost hopeful kind of radiance.
The Outdoor Marquee Ceremony
The ceremony took place beneath the open-sided marquee set on the back lawn. Guests gathered on either side of a hay‑bale‑lined aisle, framed by string lights and the distant sweep of the valley.
The groomsmen stood with Nick at the front — joking, laughing, keeping things light. Stoic, at first. Then everything changed.
When Grace Appeared
The moment Grace stepped out, framed by sunlight, laughter turned instantly into shaking chins and welling eyes. One by one, the best men’s composure cracked — a beautifully human moment that told the entire story of what she meant to them.
The ceremony carried that same emotional rhythm: bursts of joy, pockets of quiet connection, all shaped by the open air and the gentle warmth of a Sussex summer.

Festival‑Style Drinks, Lawn Games & Mint Cocktails
After the ceremony, guests drifted naturally across the lawn. The White Horse has this brilliant flow where the ceremony area blends seamlessly into the drinks space, with the pub just a few steps away for shade or a top‑up.
The Converted Van Bar
Behind the marquee, a converted van served cocktails — including a mint drink that became the surprise favourite of the afternoon. You could smell the mint with every pour; it lifted in the sunlight and drifted across the lawn.
Giggling Together at the Bar
When Grace & Nick got their first drink together, they laughed — truly laughed — in that way couples do when the adrenaline eases and the moment settles. You could feel their joy ripple through everyone around them.
Lawn Games in the Sunshine
The classic Sussex sunshine continued all afternoon. Guests played lawn games, chatted in small circles, stretched out on hay bales, and slipped effortlessly into the festival atmosphere.

Festival‑Style Décor & Marquee Atmosphere
The styling was vibrant, relaxed and full of texture — perfectly in tune with the location:
-
hay bales arranged in clusters
-
warm string lights overhead
-
bunting dancing lightly in the breeze
-
wildflower‑style arrangements
-
open-sided marquee letting the valley air flow through
Nothing felt staged or forced. Just a celebration built from personal touches and natural beauty.
The Best Light at The White Horse
The White Horse is one of those rare venues where light becomes a character in the story.
Morning Light (East Facing)
Because the valley opens to the east, mornings are filled with soft, generous sunlight — ideal for:
-
getting‑ready photos
-
details
-
dress shots
-
natural portraits indoors
Afternoon Light
The lawn stays bright well into the afternoon, wrapped in that clear summer glow that keeps colours authentic and skin tones warm.
Evening Golden Hour
As the sun drops behind the far hill, the whole valley glows with warm, directional light. This creates:
-
long shadows
-
rim‑light around couples
-
golden halos through the grass
It’s the kind of light that transforms simple moments into something cinematic.

Dancing into Moonlight
The evening began with one of the best entrances I’ve ever photographed. Grace & Nick stepped out together, walking down the string‑lit path from the marquee, and turned it into a spontaneous runway walk — complete with playful moves and a hilarious dance routine.
The marquee filled instantly, with the band lifting the energy even higher. Guests danced barefoot, drinks in hand, laughter rolling into the night.
A Sky Full of Stars
As darkness settled, the valley revealed one more gift: a crystal‑clear night sky. With almost no light pollution, the stars were bright, sharp, and endless. Guests drifted between the marquee and the lawn, surrounded by string lights above and starlight beyond.
